For 25 years, the Vancouver Tap Dance Society has been celebrating the art of tap dance in Vancouver. A key aspect of that work is the cultivation and support of tap dancers and tap dance choreographers. The VanTap Choreography Showcase is a great opportunity to support dancers from across VanTap programs – Competition Choreography Program, TapCo Youth Tap Ensemble, Tap Artistry AND TapCo PRO as they perform choreography by local and international artists.

About Competition Choreography Program:
This program has been designed to give you a well-rounded education and a foundation for success in future dance teaching or performance. The choreography classes include a performance opportunity at our choreography show, three lower mainland competitions and year end recital. , and at three regional competitions in the spring. In addition to their Choreography class, all competitive students are required to take both tap Technique and Conditioning to help develop their overall training. Students also have the opportunity to take on solo, duet or trio choreography in this program with local or visiting artists.
About TapCo Youth Tap Ensemble:
The future of a beloved art form is in the safe hands and award-winning feet of local youth. TapCo is a Youth Tap Ensemble (YTE) that stages show-stopping performances and in-demand classes to hundreds of enthusiastic young people every year at schools, Children’s Festivals and other venues. TapCo has performed to over 100,000 youth in elementary schools across the Lower Mainland and B.C., offering young audiences diverse dance exposure and a taste of the rich history of the art form. Elementary school performances can be booked through ArtStarts, a premiere arts program for young audiences in Western Canada. TapCo is setting off on a Vancouver Island tour the first week of February, stay up to date with their travels.
About Tap Artistry:
Under the Artistic direction of Tosh Sutherland, Tap Artistry was created to give young, passionate tap dancers the space to create, explore, and build community. Through a process of immersive learning, participants will experience many aspect of what a professional tap dance company experience is like. From September – December, the students will work with the program director and collaborators (musicians, other dancers, etc.) learning repertoire and . January – April will focus on devised choreography. Students will have the opportunity to either create new pieces or be a member of other students choreography. The year will wrap up with exploring musical techniques and theories with our resident jazz musician. Every class will incorporate elements of improvisation and aims to provide dancers with the tools and confidence needed to create content as a young artist.
About TapCo PRO:
TapCo has gone PRO. TapCo PRO is Vancouver’s premiere tap dance company. TapCo PRO brings new excitement to the Vancouver dance community under the direction of VanTap’s Artistic Director, Andrew Nemr. Featuring some of the most talented tap dance artists in the Pacific Northwest, TapCo Pro has been featured in performances at The Dance Centre and corporate benefits for the Canadian Liver Foundation.
