In an artisan bakery filled with freshly baked goods and delectable treats that would satisfy anyone’s sweet tooth, the last thing that would come to mind is that those chocolate lava cookies and coconut macarons you were munching on are gluten free. In fact, East Village Bakery carries a wide selection of baked goods that meet the gluten free criteria. This is good news for gluten intolerant folks as well as those who enjoy quality pastries.
East Village Bakery is a neighbourhood bakery which makes delicious classic French pastries that are gluten free. Their gluten free pastries and bread have always been enjoyed by those who appreciate tasty baked goods (not just the ones who have dietary restrictions), so much so that they have been voted the Best Patisserie 2012 in Westender. The bakery also makes desserts for Red Wagon cafe, and tries to keep all things neighbourly. The baked goods are prepared with the utmost care; their ingredients a result of thoughtful consideration from a person who understands the importance of nutritional value. As a gluten-intolerant person herself, Lucia, who co-owns East Village Bakery with her husband Bobby, finds a growing need to be better informed when it comes to the nutritional value and availability of gluten-free products. She notes, “Our Gluten Free pastries and bread are hand made with only wholesome natural ingredients, and we go out of our way to keep the use of potato starch and tapioca starch to the minimum, as they offer no nutritional value, (but are often the main ingredients of mass produced Gluten Free baked goods).” It is a true gem in the East Village so be sure to drop by and try their award-winning pastries.
