We proudly partner with Mission Possible (MP) to maintain the cleanliness and beauty of our streets. MP has collected a staggering 28,185 single-use plastic containers from our sidewalks this year. Responsible litter cleanup is essential to keep plastics out of our natural environments.
The Hastings community policing centre also plays a vital role in our community’s safety and cleanliness. Their diligent efforts have collected 1,868 discarded needles, ensuring a clean and safe environment for our families and friends.
Our area is fortunate to have numerous small farm markets and restaurants that support local organic farmers. This not only helps minimize the environmental impact of farming but also ensures higher-quality fruits and vegetables. Not only does buying local produce support small businesses, but it also helps promote small-holding farming, which has a much smaller environmental impact and often uses less water.
Supporting local businesses is not just about shopping; it’s about building a stronger community. Businesses like Billy Would, VGH Thrift, Cherry Pick Vintage, and East Van Thrift and Treasures are leading the way in sustainable and environmentally conscious practices. By choosing to shop local, you’re not just reducing your environmental footprint; you’re also supporting these businesses and their commitment to a more sustainable future.
Did you know we have a bottle depot in the neighbourhood?
Return-It bottle depot at 1856 Powell St. makes recycling easy and accepts hard-to-recycle items like juice pouches. The depot recycles things that the city doesn’t pick up to recycle, like drink pouches and bag-in-a-box beverages. The depot is also able to recycle electronics, which helps prevent E-Waste.
We are committed to promoting shop local in our daily lives and continuously seek to broaden our perspectives on important environment issues.
