Meet Chef Edward Suter at Schokolade Cafe, 2263 E. Hastings. He and his wife Jane opened the artisan chocolate shop in 2007. Edward, who has worked with food since he was 16, studied chocolate-making during a three-year apprenticeship in Switzerland, before working in Asia and Europe as a chef. His chocolates contain no preservatives or additives, and use local ingredients whenever possible. “I love being able to walk to work,” said Edward, who lives nearby with his family. “There’s quite a sense of community here.” Schokolade’s hand-made chocolates are also available at Urban Fare, Take 5 Cafés, Save-On-Foods, and at Donald’s Market. Visit their website to find out more about their chocolate high tea menu, chocolate workshops, and children’s chocolate parties.
