Community Interview – Zan

Community Interview - Zan

Have you seen this guy around the ‘hood? This is Zan, and he’s one of the many friendly, helpful people who volunteer at the Hasting-Sunrise Community Policing Centre.

“The best moments are when I can use my skills”

We had to opportunity to speak with Zan, and ask him a bit about why he likes to volunteer for our neighbourhood. Zan enjoys the many opportunities associated with the Hastings-Sunrise CPC, like Speed Watch and the Citizen Patrol, because one day he’d like to join the VPD. Not to mention his incredible capability to connect the community by helping with translation to our Cantonese, Mandarin, Japanese and Korean neighbors. “Those are the good moments,” Zan says.

“I enjoy the graffiti paint outs, garbage pickup and community events because you get to interact with people who live in this area. It’s a tight knit community and it’s an enjoyable place to hang out.”

Zan’s favorite spot to hang out on a Tuesday is at Tacofino Commissary, where you’ll often find him scarfing down a few tacos. Give Zan a high five the next time you see him walking down the street, as he’s definitely a nice, down-to-earth guy who is part of our multi-cultural community.

If you’re interested in becoming a volunteer like Zan, be sure to visit one of the CPC’s upcoming information sessions. Click here to check out all the details.
