East Village

New Brighton Park

Located on the eastern border of the East Village, New Brighton Park is arguably one of the best community parks in the city of Vancouver.

New Brighton Park has it all! Where else can you go for a run, walk, swim in the outdoor pool or play with your dog while you overlook the Burrard Inlet and have a crystal clear view of The Lions in the distance. This outstanding waterfront park lies at the base of the Second Narrows Bridge and is loaded with an outdoor pool, playgrounds, massive park with benches and a fenced in off-leash dog park for your furry friend.  All of this is at your fingertips as you want the tugboats and oil tankers drift in the Burrard Inlet.  Pretty sweet!

Hastings Park offers so much to enjoy, from live performaces in the Coliseum, to the best skatepark bowl in the Vancouver area, to amusement park rides in Playland.

Here is a brief summary of what the neighbourhood has to offer:

Agrodome

The Agrodome features an ice surface for minor hockey and figure skating events during the winter months. For the remainder of the year, the Agrodome plays host to a variety of events including professional tennis, boxing, wrestling, special events and flat shows. An oval floor with a polished concrete surface is surrounded by more than 3,000 permanent seats. Additional floor seating for 2,000 is available for concerts and other events.

Pacific Coliseum

The Pacific Coliseum is the largest building within the Hastings Park complex and provides a magnificent setting for events as diverse as ice shows, boxing, basketball, hockey, concerts, circuses, large assemblies, and trade & consumer shows.

Playland

Spread your wings and take flight on Skybender; swing on the Beast; get splashed on the Log Flume; and flip out on Hell’s Gate! Come hungry and ready to try our new ice cream flavours, noodle bar items, plus feature hot dogs and iced mini donuts. Enjoy all your favourite games and attractions including the Climbing Wall and Sweet Escape Mini Golf.

Rollerland/Rolla Skate Club

Rolla Skate Club is located at the PNE’s Rollerland building. Rolla Skate Club is a community of skaters who offer beginner classes, youth programs, and more. Whether you’ve never strapped on a pair of skates or you’re a seasoned athlete, there’s a spot for you at Rollerland. With 20,000 square feet, a DJ, and free skate rentals included with your ticket purchase, an evening at Rollerland is always a good time.

Momiji Gardens

The Momiji Gardens, located on the south side of the Garden Auditorium building, along East Hastings Street, were completed in 1993. Momiji Garden is a celebration of the rich combination of the many people who make up Canada’s unique cultural mosaic and the remarkable history and contribution not only of our Japanese Canadians but of all Canadian citizens. Rocks and Japanese maple (momiji) trees, flowers and waterfalls, all in perfect harmony. A magnificent reflection of cultures coming together and signifying what it means to be Canadian. Momiji Garden at Hastings Park is for the enjoyment of all Canadians and their visitors.

Il Giardino Italiano

Come dip your feet in the gushing fountains or gather around the large feast table for a family picnic. Pick up a game of bocce under the grape arbour. This Italian-styled garden features fountains surrounded by whimsical sculptures inspired by famous Italian operas. Pear trees and plantings of lavender and Italian cypress add to the Mediterranean feel. A large children’s play area is adjacent to the garden.

Sanctuary

The sanctuary is a nine-acre forested area that replaced the former BC Pavilion site. Two ponds are surrounded by meandering pathways with bridges and a boardwalk – perfect for bird watching. Seating areas provide calming views over the ponds. The Hastings Park Conservancy runs free nature walks in the Sanctuary.
