ABOUT THE NEIGHBOURHOOD + WHERE TO EAT

Knit City takes place in East Vancouver in an eclectic and diverse area called Hastings-Sunrise (also known as East Village). There are many places to eat, shop and get coffee. Here are some places we recommend:

COFFEE: Yes, there is a Starbucks down the street but instead why not try the Laughing Bean, a friendly, community oriented coffee shop that serves a great cup of Joe.

FOOD: For those of you staying at the Atrium Inn, there is of course the Press Box Pub. We have been assured that they will have more staff working the weekend of Knit City than they did last year, but due to the high volume of Knit City attendees at the hotel it will be busy (and loud – there is karaoke on Friday nights).

We encourage you to explore the neighbourhood – there are some hidden gems! Across the street from the hotel, you’ll find Pho Don and Blowfish Sushi (both are usually packed with Knit City attendees, especially at dinner). A short walk west on Hastings is the delicious Curry Zone and a little further on you’ll find Tacofino, Campagnolo Roma, and Tamam Mediterranean Food – we highly recommend them all.

BARS: Head west down Hastings and have a drink and a bite at Jackalopes or The Brighton. Or take a 30-min walk or 10-min drive/cab ride to get to Odd Society Spirits – a small batch gin distillery.

SHOPPING: You must take a walk down to the LYS Baaad Anna’s ! This friendly shop is filled with beautiful yarn, including Hedgehog Fibres and Wollmeise. Not yarn related, but also worth a visit are: Red Cat Records and Tiny Finery (handmade jewellery, ceramics and gifts).
