Tea & Talk with Helen Hughes @ The Learnary

November 9, 2019

1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

The Learnary, Coast Salish Territory, East Hastings Street, Vancouver, BC, Canada

Calling all parents, educators & young people. Come join Helen Hughes for a cup of tea and a discussion about building respectful & collaborative relationships with children.

Helen Hughes is the president of Transforming Education Society (TES), founder of Windsor House Democratic School, a Vancouver institution for non-coercive education and alternative education, and she is an instigator of The Learnary. She is a radical, compassionate educator with over 60 years experience. Her particular interest is collaboration and joy. She is full of curiosity, insight, and unexpected ideas, and she is a great person to spend some time with.

This is a great event for people involved with parenting, public schooling, unschooling, home learning, community education, or generally living and working with young people.

Participants are invited to bring something from their own lives they want to talk about in community. One of the things Helen often recommends to parents, when we find ourselves in a challenging moment, is to say “I’m not really sure what to do here, I’m going to do some good thinking about it, and ask people for help figuring it out, and let you know”. This is a place to bring those moments and considerations. So that we can better understand our selves as parents and lean on one another in community.

The Learnary asks for a contribution of $5 – $25 per participant for these discussions. No one turned away for lack of funds. Proceeds go to supporting The Vancouver Learnary Society as an active community space. Childcare is not provided, however children for whom it works to hang out at The Learnary are very welcome
