Perhaps you have seen her working at Shoppers Drug Mart or strolling through the neighbourhood, but there is a good chance you will find Sarah ringing in your purchases at the VGH Thrift Store. Sarah has been living in the East Village for a number of years, but has only started volunteering at the thrift store since July of last year.
Sarah decided to volunteer at VGH thrift store not only to gain job experience for her resume, but the she felt a strong desire to support a good cause: supporting local hospitals. She tells us that she really enjoys her position because there is always something to do. Whether it be pricing items, tidying the store or organizing the clothing – which seems like a daunting task!
She strongly encourages others to volunteer at the VGH Thrift Store because she adores everyone who volunteers here. “It is such a friendly workplace, I would recommend volunteering here!” Like many, Sarah also loves the relationships she makes with the customers. And with her smiling face and warm demeanor, it’s no wonder she is able to hone these relationships.
Sarah’s empathy shows no bounds as she strongly believes the neighbourhood exhibits a sense of family and community. “I love that everyone in the neighbourhood looks out for each other. Everyone cares for each other here, and that can be hard to find in other places.”
As a resident of the East Village, Sarah was hard pressed to pick a favourite spot in the ‘hood. “I do love Pho Don!” She laughs and tells us, “obviously I go for the food, but the servers are so sweet.” Swing by the VGH Thrift Store to pick up some rare gems and say hello to sweet Sarah.
